The Health Sciences and Environmental Compliance Division (HSECD) is looking for you – a passionate individual in the area of environmental protection to join their team!You will have the opportunity to use your expertise and work as part of a team that functions as the corporate authority for the environmental protection Safety and Control Area.

HSECD leads DERPA’s involvement in the CNSC’s compliance promotion, verification and enforcement activities for nuclear facilities and uranium mines and mills to ensure that licensed activities do not pose an unreasonable risk to people and the environment.

As an Environmental Program Officer, reporting to the director, you will:

•Conduct technical assessments of licensee’s environmental protection programs submitted as part of licensing •Conduct environmental compliance activities, including desktop reviews and inspections•Participate and provide advice in the CNSC’s Independent Environmental Monitoring Program (IEMP)•Provide support and advice in the Directorate’s participation in Commission proceedings•Participate in meetings with Indigenous groups, members of the public, government departments, environmental groups•Support the implementation of regulatory documents and regulations What are we looking for? Education:

University degree in science or engineering in a discipline related to environmental protection or an equivalent combination of education, experience and relevant job knowledge.Language Requirements:

English essentialExperience:

•Developing, reviewing, auditing and inspecting environmental protection programs related to effluent and environmental monitoring, site assessment or environmental management systems•Analyzing environmental performance data•Communicating with various stakeholders including proponents, environmental groups, federal/provincial departments, Indigenous communities and members of the public on issues related to environmental protection•Analyzing and synthesizing technical information and conveying it effectively to non-specialists and managementKnowledge of:

Canadian environmental assessment and environmental protection legislation, policies, standards and guidelines•Environmental protection principles and practices•CNSC’s licensing and compliance process•Nuclear fuel cycle facilities•Project management principles and processes•Indigenous engagement principlesAbility to:

•Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing •Collaborate across divisions and directorates Key Competencies:
