JOB INFORMATION We are currently seeking a Workcar & CraneOperator.
This position is on a 40-hour work-week.
The work will normally be performed on the Night shift with Thursday/Friday off-days.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Operating various rail work vehicles throughout the subway right-of-way; operating specialized equipment such as vehicle mounted cranes, the tamping car in work mode, etc.
Operating various workcar mounted cranes and gantries; ensuring that blocks and outriggers are securely placed as necessary Coupling/uncoupling vehicles and ensuring they are properly secured during push/pull operations; lifting or pulling manual track switches as required Operating service vehicles as a recovery unit under emergency conditions Performing minor running repairs to units, reporting servicing or repairs required, and completing the appropriate forms such a pre-trip and post trip inspection sheets Ensuring the vehicle operated is kept in a state of cleanliness both inside and out Performing Track Maintainer duties or assisting with a wide variety of manual track construction duties when a vehicle is not available for operations Setting out track lights, flags and impassable track set-ups in strict accordance with published safety regulations Performing snow removal duties using hand held tools or mechanical powered equipment as required Demonstrates behaviours that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE Training obtained through completion of Grade 12 or its recognized equivalent as determined by the Training and Development Department Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, including published operating/safety rules and regulations; Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with the Control Centre through radio and telephone protocol to effectively exchange information and instructions Must have successfully completed the Track Maintainer training program Must have successfully completed the 12-month WorkcarOperator trainee program Must possess a valid Class G Province of Ontario Driver's Licence Must pass a vision test and established pre-test set by the Training and Development Department The Successful candidate will be responsible for:
Attending and successfully completing training programs for Subway/SRT Rulebook, first aid, C.P.R., WHMIS and if necessary, the TTC’s respiratory protection program Attending and successfully completing the training programs for the operation of various specialized workcars, pertinent to the job, such as special purpose crane cars, tamping cars, etc.
Attending and successfully complete the Training and Development Department’s program for crane operation (0 to 8 tons), and obtain 1,000 hours of practical for TTC qualification Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees The TTC is committed to upholding the values of equity, diversity, anti-racism and inclusion in the delivery of its services and in its workplaces.
