Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer will be a key member of the operational team.
What You'll Do Here:
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
• Prepare substation projects from conceptual design through to construction support• Prepare electrical design packages which include one-line, site plan, electrical plan & sections, grounding plan & details, conduit plan and details, control house plan, control house grounding plan & details, lighting plan, lightning protection plan, and bill of materials (BOM)• Assist in developing plot plans and elevation drawings for outdoor substation equipment• Develop Switchgear room and Control room layout drawings for substation projects• Work closely with peers to ensure accurate delivery and thorough electrical design that will meet industry standards and specifications and meet good engineering practices• Lead projects and provide regular progress updates from conception through construction and commissioning, including overseeing and mentoring junior engineers and designers• Perform calculations and studies which include power system studies on utility and industrial/commercial electrical power transmission and distribution systems, including short circuit, load flow, arc flash, power factor, grounding analysis, and other related studies• Support the preparation of proposal writeups, material and construction cost estimates, and project scheduling for responses to RFPs• Maintain good working relationships with internal groups that support projects such as other Engineering disciplines, Drafting, Procurement, Construction and Project Management, etc.• Coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members• Construction support including resolving any site issues, attending site meetings, and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects• Perform QA/QC of electrical engineering design packages• Travel to site and liaising with internal groups, external contractors, and clients• Enhance and maintain relationships with internal groups as well as external contractors and clients What You Bring To The Team:
• Electrical, Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.• Professional Engineer (P.Eng or PE) registered with any North American Engineering Association• A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in the field of Substation Electrical engineering or the field of Transmission and Distribution is considered to have gained the required experience for the position• Good knowledge of North American codes and standards such as CSA, NEC, IEEE, Reg 22/04• Experience developing design drawings for a variety of transmission structure types• Experience preparing Single Line Diagram and detailed designs of medium to high voltage substations which includes structure and design layouts for switches, circuit breakers, transformers, rigid bus, protection systems, etc.
is an asset• Experience in renewable energy projects including wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, energy storage systems, and other technologies is an asset• Ability to attend site visits and capture all technical data needed for estimates and execution of related substation expansions• Experience in Hydro One and other electrical utility companies Standards is an asset• Experience with MicroStation or other drafting software is an asset• Good written and verbal communication skills Aecon TorontoOntario
