 Join us at BC’s newest international boarding school and become part of team committed to making a difference—and making history.  PCS is currently operating under an Interim Certificate from the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care (MECC) which authorizes it to begin offering its educational program in September. The school will be fully inspected by MECC in the fall and, upon resolution of any compliance issues identified during the inspection, PCS expects to be issued full certification by MECC shortly thereafter.

Position overview :

This position has a combined administrative and teaching assignment working closely with the senior leadership team reporting directly to the Deputy Head of School.

Ongoing support and assistance with various administrative functions will be provided by the senior leadership team.

Primary/General qualifications :

a BC teaching certificate or eligibility for certification with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch a Master’s Degree (completed or in process) in a relevant field relevant and recent professional development that qualifies the candidate would be ideal   The ideal candidate will also possess:

a strong set of organizational, communication and interpersonal skills while demonstrating an understanding of emotional intelligence an understanding of and appreciation for the benefits and importance of international education a willingness and demonstrated ability to facilitate the needs of all learners and staff a fundamental belief that all learners can achieve at a high level and should be supported to achieve their full potential the ability to develop strong, genuine student relationships with international and domestic students that assist in maintaining a quality learning experience, in and out of the classroom the ability to monitor quality assurance systems, design and implement a range of authentic formative and summative assessments, while ensuring appropriate and timely feedback to students and their parents a strong commitment to and experience engaging in Truth and Reconciliation an understanding of the need to authentically engage in building ongoing relationships with Indigenous peoples to cultivate respect, community, and shared benefit an ability to integrate appropriate Indigenous content and resources into educational programs skills that integrate appropriate digital technologies into educational programs the demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with teaching and non-teaching staff and the broader community a strong ability to work collaboratively on a senior leadership team that is committed to student success and support an appreciation for and willingness to engage in and support various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, events, and trips including but not limited to the u.prep@pcs suite of programs a commitment to cultivating and maintaining a collaborative school culture, leading by example and exercising good judgment when engaging students, staff, parents, and the broader community   Here’s what we are looking for in an Administrator:

a proven educator with an exemplary track record in multiple disciplines or study and/or grade levels across Grade 7 to 12.

a track record of delivering high quality, engaging lessons with an understanding of the BC Curriculum, place-based learning, and the First Peoples Principles of Learning an innovative teacher that incorporates the use of engaging teaching strategies while weaving in appropriate uses of technology an ability to adapt and/or interpret an elective course to extend and expand learning opportunities for students   a willingness and ability to work with guest speakers, presenters, knowledge holders, and/or Indigenous staff members to effectively and appropriately access key learning opportunities to enhance student educational experiences.

  Note:

the Principal’s teaching assignment portion will be determined based on the successful candidate’s background and experience.

Here’s how our school operates for staff:

our classes occur on a Wednesday-to-Sunday schedule with weekly days off being Monday and Tuesday time is provided in this contract to work on start-up preparations with the senior leadership team beginning in August with the actual school year being September 18, 2023 to May 15, 2024 beyond the end of the school year, you will engage an additional 20 days of paid assignment on strategic initiatives which shall be determined with you and the senior leadership team jointly.

These may include, but not be limited to, the following:

teaching/leading summer student programs locally teaching exchanges at sister schools overseas with educational partners leading local or overseas summer programs attending conferences/pursuing Pro-D on behalf of/for benefit of PCS teaching at/volunteering in disadvantaged Canadian communities/schools creating specific courses and/or club curricula for PCS leading add-on excursions/initiatives for students who extend beyond May 15 and/or arrive in early September (in-Canada camping trips, volunteer trips, etc.) carbon offset work re:

school’s CO2 footprint as accumulated from recruiting travel, etc.

we make use of multiple locations for learning including our academic campus at College of the Rockies, our outdoor campus at Kimberley Alpine Resort, and our boarding campus at St.
