JOB SUMMARY Develops and implements production/processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most efficient manner for new and existing assembly processes, specifically those requiring surfacemount, flip-chip and both flux and fluxless reflow for photonics components.
Monitors the assembly process; troubleshooting problem processes and assisting in resolving quality issues.
Is the technical expert on various projects/productions jobs and process as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To organize or participate in internal and vendor meeting on machines related issues.
Establish new equipment introduction at manufacturing sites.
Develop work instructions, visual aids, operation procedure for machines and processes that the site has no experience in.
Lead in lines and machines first time setup, include performing machines CPK and Calibration, hardware and software setup, system proliferation and necessary training for operations engineering team.
Establish strategy plan towards improving safety, OEE, yield and machine attrition.
Develop equipment maintenance and repair support plan with site operation engineering team.
Optimize critical process performance such as reflow profiles, wave solder profiles, screen printing, designing, and manufacturing of necessary tooling to enable mass production activity is executed at par with site’s expectations.
Development of fixtures such as new stencils, support block / plates, solder pallets, inserts, etc.
Identify critical and supplementary spare parts.
Able to perform details analysis of root causes, and development of Failure Mode Effective Analysis through identification and implementation of corrective action measures and monitoring improvements prior to handshake to site Operations Engineering for long term sustenance.
Responsible to coach site Manufacturing Engineers in maintaining the established process and machine maintenance.
Responsible in performing hands on, driving and reporting prototype and NPI builds for SMT processes uncommon to the manufacturing site.
Responsible in driving and performing reliability testing such as cross-section imaging, scanning acoustic microscopy (C-SAM), shearing test, pull-off test.
Responsible in providing effective training to site operations personnel in handling the newly developed process for long term manufacturing sustenance.
Responsible in providing site engineering support estimate, process assumptions, cycle time estimates, NRE estimates and resource estimates required.
Responsible in driving and completing Manufacturing Process Release Checklist (MPRC) prior to handshake to Operations Engineering Team for long term sustenance activities.
Initiate and drive transition from NPI to mass production phase upon completion of MPRC.
Participate in periodic customers’ meetings for feedbacks, brainstorming and process design approvals.
Lead the startup of new/existing projects/production jobs, optimizing cost, efficiency and quality.
Lead the process control and maintain appropriate documentation.
Monitor the assembly/molding process running in production; troubleshoot problems associated with processes, and assist in resolving quality issues.
Establish detailed processes for new product lines; document product development and changes; evaluate new product performance; and monitor new tool design.
Debug significant complex problems in new systems, tooling and automation.
Design major experiments to enhance processes as well as improve yields and utilization through reduced cycle and efficient set-up.
Lead and implement major maintenance changes in process improvements; propose or specify repair alteration of automation while ensuring adequate documentation is maintained.
Provide functional and technical mentoring to process technicians and other process engineers.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment; supporting all company safety programs and initiatives.
Support all company safety and quality programs and initiatives.
Apply and support Lean Manufacturing principles.
May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience in SMT environment and have trouble shooting knowledge.
Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC).
Proficient in IPC610 Standards (particularly for standard SMT, flip-chip, underfill/TIM dispensing processes) Possess advance level of SMT rework techniques and rework equipment.
Detail-oriented in data analysis of process assembly data and test reliability data.
Ability to verify compliance of collected data from reliability tests concerning customer demand or standard specifications (underfill/TIM void specifications, specified force, coplanarity, etc.) Good interpersonal skills.
Ability to perform programming in different computer programming languages.
PREQUISITES Masters degree in Electronics Engineering Field or higher with minimum of 5 years related experience and/or training.
Experienced as a sole contributor in development works for SMT related processes such as screen print, component mount, reflow, flux cleaning.
Understands the needs of design fabrication, design for manufacturing and design for assembly.
Experienced in the lab management is a plus.
Willing to travel, notably to Penang but potentially other sites, at least 2-3 times per year.
