Reporting to the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships 2024Society (“Society”), the Event Assistant is responsible for various tasksrelated to the planning and execution of the 2024 National Aboriginal HockeyChampionships (“2024 NAHC”), as directed, to ensure the successful hosting ofthe event.

The Aboriginal Sport Circle established the National Aboriginal HockeyChampionships (NAHC) in 2002 to serve as the premier competition for youngIndigenous hockey players.

From May 5 – 11, 2024, 16 teams of more than 500athletes and 100 coaches, plus officials, dignitaries, and spectators, will betravelling to Grande Prairie for the 2024 NAHC.

An exciting blend of sport andculture, this event provides a forum for elite Bantam/Midget Aged Indigenousyouth to not only compete for sport glory, but to also come together inceremony and camaraderies.

Many players, both female and male have gone on tonotable careers in hockey and sport.

Grande Prairie will be the first everAlberta community to host the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships.

This is a temporary position from approximately February 1, 2024
- May31, 2024 Responsibilities Serve on the Board as a non-voting member.

Liaise with Aboriginal Sport Circle, Indigenous Sport Council ofAlberta, and other community partners as required.

Collaborate with Indigenous leaders, Indigenous Education Liaisons, andcommunity members to ensure cultural experiences are authentic, respectful, andeducational.

Creation of website and social media content for various platforms.

Cultural programming and planning for the Opening & ClosingCeremonies, Athlete & Coaches Entertainment Night, Smudge Tent, IndigenousVendor Alley, and other community events.

Assist with planning of operational elements of the event, such asaccommodations, transportation, security, and merchandise.

Opportunity to learn from and shadow members of the Aboriginal SportCircle Hockey Committee.

Volunteer engagement.

Opportunity to assist with the execution of the 2024 Alberta WinterGames from February 16 – 19, 2024.Other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Supervisor You Bring Proof of Indigenous ancestry (please attach with application)Class 5 driver’s license Must be available to start immediately and work the event from May 4 –12, 2024.

Have an interest or passion for event management and sportOne year of administrative experienceCompetency in Microsoft Office programsExceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task andmanage multiple conflicting prioritiesEffective communication skills, both verbal and written Compensation/HoursThis is a term position as an employee or as a contractor that ends on or before May 31, 2024.

Compensation will be negotiated with the successful candidate and will be based on their ability to fulfill the requirements and obligations of this position.
