The Division has three well-defined and successful clinical and research programs:
Malignant Hematology, Thrombosis and BenignHematology.
The benignhematology group includes dedicated programs in Apheresis, Hemostasis, Hemoglobinopathy, Transfusion Medicine, and General Hematology.The Ottawa Hospital is a bed tertiary-care hospital serving Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec at four inpatient sites (Civic, General, Heart Institute, and the Rehabilitation Centre) and one ambulatory centre (Riverside).
There are approximately 50, inpatient admissions, , emergency visits and over one million outpatient visits annually.The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) is TOH’s research arm.
It ranks fourth out of more than Canadian hospitals for competitive, peer-reviewed grants from the prestigious Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
OHRI houses over 2, researchers, publishing more than 2, studies yearly, with hundreds being high impact publications (top 10% or citations) and places 5th overall in Canada for research funding.The Department of Medicine is a research-intensive Department.
Members currently hold 28 University Research Chairs.
The Department receives approximately $60 million per year in external research funding and members publish approximately peer-reviewed publications annually.The Faculty of Medicine is a nationally recognized leader, ranked among Canada’s top-tier medical faculties.

Together, these remarkable achievements are a strong testament to the competitiveness and excellence of our Faculty.ResponsibilitiesThe role of a jointcommunity-facultyhematologist includes participation in hematology inpatient services, availability and supervision of hospital-based treatments and procedures through the three Ottawa Hospital Medical Daycare Units, plus shared central intake for benignhematology referrals.
Jointcommunity-facultyhematologists participate in medical education teaching, academic rounds and committee work of their interest.
The successful applicant will also work in a community-based clinical hematology practice.Academically, the division of hematology supports undergraduate and postgraduate training, including subspecialty fellowship trainees in all three of our programs.

The successful candidate would participate in part-time associate benefits through the competitive Department of Medicine Academic Incentive Program.QualificationsThe successful candidate must hold an MD degree; have, or be eligible for certification in Hematology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with expertise in lymphoproliferative diseases; be a member of, or be eligible to be a member of, the Canadian Medical Protective Association; have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario; and, be eligible for a University of Ottawa academic appointment.
