The CTE offers several educational development programs such as the Instructional Skills Workshop, Teaching Squares, faculty peer mentoring, communities of practices, faculty learning communities, individual consultations, curriculum design, teaching with technology, and an annual Teaching and Learning Symposium.The educational developer position will be housed in the functional area of the Centre for Teaching Excellence and will assist faculty to enhance pedagogical practices that are learning-centered and collaborative.

The educational developer is flexible, positive and works well in a collaborative team environment.

In this role the candidate will promote excellence and innovation in teaching and learning while carrying out the following responsibilities:

Illustrative examples/Specific Responsibilities Plan, implement and evaluate educational development programs for faculty across the university, with an emphasis on effective teaching, student learning, experiential learning, and other priority areas as they are evolved by faculty and supported by the universityDeliver and provide direction for professional development programs and events for faculty and staff including the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW), new faculty orientations, identified workshops for new and experienced faculty, and course design workshopsConsult and advise faculty in curriculum development according to evidence-informed best practices for student learning such as high impact educational practicesAdvise faculty in effective and innovative teaching practices through formal and informal individual and group consultations, resource creation, and workshop and institute deliverySupport faculty in course development, delivery and assessment of meaningful learning experiencesSupports faculty in developing, reusing, and remixing Open Educational Resources (OER)Consult and advise faculty on pedagogically sound uses of technology in teachingProvide general support to faculty on educational technologies including Moodle and other adopted technologiesProvide support to faculty concerning online blended learning development opportunities.Work with faculty on specific course-related needs (e.g., designing and using rubrics, active learning strategies, and assessment)Develop a repository of faculty support materials such as instructional resources and website resourcesFacilitate communities of practice and faculty learning communitiesWork with faculty on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).

This may include facilitating and engaging in research, presentations, and grant proposals.

Collaborate with the university community on open education practices Collaborate with institutional units on teaching-related initiatives and programs (e.g., UDL)Develop tools and processes that support an outcomes-based approach to learningAssist in the delivery and programming of a Certificate Program in University Teaching and new faculty workshops.Disseminate and promote knowledge on teaching and learningSupports new projects as requested by the administrator responsible for the Centre for Teaching ExcellencePerforms other related duties as assigned Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Knowledge of current research in teaching and learning, best practices, and standards of teaching excellence (active learning and strategies for student engagement)Demonstrated skills in teaching and educational development abilities Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technologies and design theories and practices and application of best practices in the use of technologies in teaching and learning in post-secondary educationDemonstrated understanding of the use of technology as tools for achieving learning goals.Experience in online and blended learning course design, development, and deliveryKnowledge and expertise in Moodle, video-conferencing, educational technology and assessment technologiesDemonstrated ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively with a diverse group of faculty, administrators, and staff individually and in group settings in written and verbal communicationsDemonstrated ability to organize and provide workshops through campus partnerships and develop workshops as neededDemonstrated skill in facilitation and presentation workshopsKnowledge of the impact of physical classroom environment on teaching and learning approachesStrong computer skills, including a high degree of facility in the use of all Microsoft Office applications, are requiredDemonstrated organizational and self-management skills including time management and the ability to prioritize, multi-task and attend to detailAbility to work independently and in a team environment, manage time well, and communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and staff while taking a service-oriented approach and consultative decision-making What you’ll bring Master’s degree in Education or a related fieldFacilitator Development Workshop (FDW) certificatePrior experience teaching at the post-secondary level2 years’ experience working in educational and faculty development at the post-secondary level Posting Detail Information Internal or External Position External Appointment Date (mm/dd/yyyy) 03/01/2024 Salary Scale $8,719 per instructional section to a maximum of $13,972 per instructional section based on previous experience.

Scale placement will be completed according to the Collective Agreement.
