1011 The successful applicant will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check that includes the vulnerable sector and three references Ensuring the future through cultural, social and economic developmentJOB SUMMARY The purpose of the Certified Education Assistant is to support a student with multiple diagnosis, including hearing impairments and developmental delays.

The Certified Education Assistant will provide a solid and safe foundation which fosters the student’s physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and cultural development.SUPPORTS NEEDED • Assist teacher with preparation and organization of material and lessons suited to students with hearing impairment • Support student communication skills through the use of Touch Chat App with the iPad and American Sign Language at the students level • Become familiar with Touch Chat app and update the vocabulary bank as needed • Be comfortable with using a Sound Tower system (small-scale PA type system) to communicate during classroom activities • Support student with toileting, including reminders to use the washroom, and assisting with clean up after using the toilet • Assist with small group instruction under the direction of the Classroom Teacher • Provide one to one support for the student in areas as directed by the Classroom Teacher • Assist teacher in identifying ways to help and support student learning outcomes • Review student files, particularly Individual Education Plans, Safety Plans, and SMART Goals to become familiar with student needs • Assist in managing classroom expectations through positive reinforcement • Support student to engage in play with other students • Be a positive role model for behaviour; practice respectful student/adult and adult/adult interactions • Supervise outside play at recess and lunch, while on fieldtrips, and assist in other supervision duties as required • Manage incidents involving students to ensure children have a safe and secure environment • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with ECE/school community • All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services.

Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties • Perform other duties as requiredADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES • Monitor, record, and report student success according to Individual Education Plans and SMART goals • Attend staff meetings & Pro-D Day training opportunities as directed and requested • Communicate with Classroom Teacher and family as needed, any pertinent information regarding the student including incidents, accidents, and First Aid administered.

• Communicate with the Classroom Teacher, LAT Teacher, and Principal/Vice Principal any concerns.

• Type, file, and duplicate materials as required and requested of Classroom Teacher.

• Participate in community and school events as requested.

• Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies and procedures, including the Code of EthicsWHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR You have education, experience, or carry a willingness to learn.

You are community-minded, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.

• Grade 12 diploma • Certified Education Assistant Certificate, or willing to obtain • Current First Aid/CPR certificate, or willing to obtain • Two years of experience as an Education Assistant is preferred, or equivalent experience • Demonstrated ability to work with children/students who are hearing impaired • Demonstrated ability to work with children/students who have developmental delays • Experience working with First Nations communitiesCLASSIFICATION/PAY SCALE $ – $ per hour dependant on education and experience Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal Applicants as per section 41 of the Human Rights Code.
