Job Summary The Associate Director, Alumni Data and Strategic Initiatives, develops alumni engagement strategy and leads the development, implementation, execution, and evaluation of an innovative, university-wide, and highly effective alumni engagement metrics and analytics program to increase the number of alumni contributing to and engaging with the University.

They will be a strong leader, communicator and collaborator working with UBC colleagues, senior leadership, faculty, staff and students, across campus to provide meaningful insights to develop high value, mutually beneficial opportunities for alumni and students to engage with the institution.

Areas of responsibility include developing and providing leadership and management of foundational processes and alumni data management strategies to expand and strengthen university-wide opportunities for alumni engagement in service to the UBC alumni community, The role manages all aspects and processes related to alumni engagement metrics and reporting needs as well as developing and executing our yearly brand health survey and other market research needs as required.

The incumbent develops and identifies reporting requirements and leads the system changes and improvements to meet benchmark needs while monitoring performance of alumni UBC's strategic plan's key performance indicators; advising and providing recommendations to senior administration on strategic opportunities and best practices; and advocating for alumni engagement on related University and community committees.

The incumbent will also be responsible for developing alumni engagement strategy and developing comprehensive program infrastructure to ensure consistency of program delivery.

The role requires strong leadership, communication and collaboration skills, coupled with strong data literacy, planning, and program evaluation skills to build deep relationships with senior leadership and staff across campus to ensure that faculty/unit strategic plans are supported with the appropriate data-driven tools and information.

The incumbent provides high-level expertise and direction to campus stakeholders, based on best practice.

Organizational Status Reports to the Senior Director, Alumni Engagement and Operations.

Works closely with the entire alumni UBC senior leadership team.

Work Performed Leads the development, planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of an innovative, university-wide alumni data analysis and evaluation program that provides the data-driven decision making tools and information to units and leaders across DAE.

Defines objectives and provides strategic direction to the alumni relations portfolios as it relates to data management, integrity and reporting.

Establishes, and maintains key internal stakeholder relationships on both campuses by providing alumni insights that supports their area of service to alumni, alumni community, and students.

Ensures that alumni activities are consistently tracked and linked to university, alumni relations and campaign priorities through connecting cross-functional teams and data processes.

Provides strategic direction to alumni units across campus with the development and analysis of demographic and engagement data and its use to inform, track progress, and articulate outcomes of strategic plans as it relates to promoting engagement between alumni and UBC.

Researches, collects, interprets, and documents policy and procedures on a wide range of metrics tracking to evaluate the engagement levels of alumni.

Provides leadership for the development and management of the alumni data processes that demonstrates alumni engagement impact and its connection to institutional priorities.

Develops alumni engagement strategy and comprehensive program infrastructure to ensure consistency of program delivery.

Stays informed on, evaluates, and integrates advances in technology and data analysis into alumni UBC operations.

(In particular AI development.) Summarizes and documents discussion outcomes and liaises with others to develop system specifications.

Plans and develops training materials and delivers training to end users on alumni engagement metrics tracking and reporting.

Conducts quantitative and qualitative research to gain knowledge of alumni attitudes and preferences (e.g., brand health surveys, focus groups, trend analysis, networking with other alumni offices, and participates in alumni relations professional associations).

Manages alumni engagement metrics benchmarking on an annual basis and finds business solutions that allows the automation of alumni engagement tracking and report pulling.

Ensures the alignment of alumni engagement goals, objectives, and resources, by identifying engagement data trends to assist with future planning.

Researches new ways to track and record alumni data to support alumni relationship building goals, pipeline development, and provides recommendations for changes to improve and strengthen alumni engagement.

Develops performance tracking systems to capture statistical information for measuring, evaluating, and improving alumni engagement programs.

Establishes and maintains key data and operations-related internal stakeholder relationships with UBC units (non-DAE).

Collaborates intentionally across non-DAE units at UBC to identify opportunities to collaborate on data needs and insights, including, but not limited to career outcome work.

Consequence of Error/Judgement The Associate Director is expected to make decisions and recommendations significant strategic decisions to engage Alumni in the life of the University.

Incorrect interpretation or communication of university positions, policy and procedures or lack of tact, diplomacy or sensitivity in dealing with these alumni and senior administrators could potentially result in damaged relationships and credibility for alumni UBC, Development and Alumni Engagement, the President s Office and the University as a whole, leading to potential financial, reputational, and political implications.

Supervision Received Reports directly to the Senior Director, Alumni Engagement and Operations.

The incumbent works independently according to broad objectives and with discretion relating to policy administration and interpretation, and administrative responsibilities.

Supervision Given This position will supervise one Alumni Engagement Manager as well as one Alumni Engagement Coordinator.

They will have significant responsibility for working with a number of alumni UBC senior staff.

University degree in a relevant discipline.

Minimum five years of experience, experience in fundraising, alumni relations, advancement experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

University degree.

Minimum of 8 years of related experience including experience at a post-secondary education institution and in data management, alumni relations, fundraising/advancement experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience working in alumni relations, market research, program coordination, management, human resources, strategic planning, and/or university environment is an asset.

Proven successful track record in partnership and program development.

Superior oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Knowledge of current privacy policies and practices.
