The successful candidate will assist in the development and management of an existing and growing portfolio of investments across the Seed Investment Fund and the Women in Tech Fund and support ecosystem initiatives that further the mandate of the Women in Technology Venture Fund, BDC Capital and BDC. CHALLENGES TO BE METFollowing internally established processes, assessing the suitability of investment opportunities by conducting initial reviews of the business plan and investment materials, managing initial communication with entrepreneurs and referrals, preparing initial interview memoranda and recommendations to pursue or decline;Contributing to and supporting due diligence efforts for new and/or existing investment opportunities by conducting market research and analysis, formulating financial forecasts, reviewing management, competition, and so on and account managing existing investments using appropriate databases, customer interaction, research reports and other resources;Monitoring the investment portfolio and account updates by providing financial, forecasting and statistical analysis to ensure timely responsiveness to strategic issues within the funds;Ensuring that new and existing investment are properly documented by monitoring, updating, financial analysis, forecasting, account tracking, back-office support, disbursements, and so on.;Managing efficient ongoing relationships with executives of investee companies, promptly responding to all inquiries in a courteous and efficient manner, as well as with representatives from the investment and technology communities through active and ongoing marketing efforts;Ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of data by developing and maintaining appropriate information resources and subject matter expertise in various industries, markets and business trends and keeping abreast of significant developments, activities and initiatives in the venture capital industry;Ensuring that the investment research files, business plans and other information collected by SI&WIT are maintained in accordance with BDC’s and SI&WIT’s policies and procedures;Scouting appropriate opportunities for investment based on the prescribed parameters for all investment programs with a primary focus on theTech and Seed Funds and secondary focus on other opportunities to support entrepreneurs through BDC Capital and BDC;Acting as a champion for BDC WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY VENTURE FUND, BDC Capital and BDC; and,Supporting other team members across the full life-cycle of an investment. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOREducation and relevant work experience combines the following:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, commerce, science or engineeringMBA or other graduate degree in a technology-related discipline preferredFive to seven years' experience in sales, product management, development, finance or marketing in a start-up or growing technology company and/or experience in a venture capital, private equity or other financial environment focused on investing in technology companiesInterest and involvement in the early stage technology ecosystem is considered an assetThe ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated ability in investment management, company and market analysis as well as networking skills and relationships in the technology community.Ability to assess the strengths/weaknesses of management teams;Networking, relationship-building and business development skills; and,Knowledge of securities and share structures commonly used in the venture capital and/or private equity industry;Ability to value defensibly technology oriented, early stage businesses;Strong analytical skills and aptitude with Excel; strong communications skills, including the ability to produce and deliver clear and concise oral and written presentations in English;Ability to work under pressure, deal with abstract concepts and multitask;Ability to prepare financial forecasts and pro-forma financial statements;Intellectual curiosity, excellent analytical and synthesis skills, ability to assess the merits of new technologies, size and adoption rates of markets, and competitive forces faced when introducing new products;Knowledge of the technology industry, including good knowledge of product development, marketing and sales in technology industries, particularly at the early stages;Strong team player with the ability to work effectively as a support and engaged member of a full-cycle investment team.With us, you'll be able to achieve the work/life balance you're looking for, with competitive working conditions and above-market flexible benefits.?This includes modern workspaces to work from when you are in our offices, and, for some specific positions, the ability to work remotely, on reserve, and/or within your community.While we appreciate all applications, we advise that only the candidates selected to participate in the recruitment process will be contacted.
