59pm (EST) Overview The Government Relations Team is the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission’s (CNSC) small but mighty centre of expertise that supports many challenging and time-sensitive files.

We support the CNSC by facilitating horizontal collaboration across the organization and harnessing the CNSC’s expertise to develop and provide strategic policy and advice to the CNSC’s executive team and the Government of Canada.

The Team regularly collaborates with subject matter experts across the organization to prepare for senior-level engagements (e.g.

parliamentary committee appearances); craft input for other government departments (e.g.

in support of policy development); and develop budget requests, Treasury Board submissions, and memorandums of understanding (MOU).

The Team also monitors the CNSC’s operating environment to ensure situational awareness for the organization and maintains readiness to participate in the CNSC’s Emergency Operations Centre.New and exciting files and tasks arrive regularly – often with little notice and requiring urgent attention and response – which helps keep every day interesting and makes each week fly by.

Essential Qualifications:

Education:

University degree from a recognized institution, or equivalent combination of education, relevant experience and job knowledge.Language Requirements:

English essential Experience:

•Experience writing reports, speeches and/or briefing materials for senior management (within government the Director General, ADM DM level and/or Ministerial level)•Experience in collaborating and coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and experts•Experience in collaborating and engaging with external organizations and/or other government departments•Experience in policy analysis and/or development Knowledge of:

•Knowledge of the CNSC mandate, priorities and position within the Government of Canada.•Knowledge of the Government of Canada planning and reporting cycle Key Competencies:

Asset Qualifications – Dependent on operational requirements General – applies to all open positions•Post graduate education relevant to the role•Experience writing and/or working on Government of Canada policy initiatives and in preparing policy briefs for Senior management •Experience with Federal and provincial parliamentary structures and mechanisms, as well as a general understanding of Government of Canada policies and directives•Experience in the identification, monitoring and analysis of strategic trends, including, for example economic and social trends •Experience in drafting Cabinet proposals and/or Treasury Board Submissions•Experience in the development of MOUs with other government departments or regulatory counterparts•Knowledge of the current domestic and international nuclear regulatory environment Operational Needs:
